How long have you been tattooing?
I discovered tattooing when I was 13, but have been working professionally in a tattoo studio since I was 18, which means I currently have 17 years of experience.
What inspired you to become a tattoo artist?
I was inspired to be a tattoo artist by the emotion I saw in people's eyes when I mentioned that I was pursuing a career in tattooing. It was a unique feeling they transmitted, one of curiosity, contradiction, and admiration, very few professions can create that.
What is your background (university etc)
Up until I was 21 I spent my life in art schools, so I did my primary school from 5th grade to 8th grade in an art mid-school. Also, high school (the equivalent of college in the UK) was dedicated to art. Added to that were a few more studies on the side with various artists in a private environment.
What style do you specialise in?
I specialise in black and grey realism /surrealism,but since art is represented by being the master of shapes, shades, proportion, perspective, depth, light and dark, I like to pursue and mix illustration, oriental, or even line work in my tattoos.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I travel to collect inspiration, visit plenty of museums, read to enrich the way I think, and research how great artists paved the way to achieve their masterpieces.
What’s your favourite kind of tattoo to do?
My favourite kind of tattoo is where the client allows me to work freely with their concept. When I find a powerful symbolism that I need to integrate into the client’s ideas, I feel the artwork is perfectly connected with them and their mind.
What’s the coolest tattoo you’ve done?
It is hard to say what the coolest tattoo I have done is, as you can’t compare one artwork with the other, because the artwork emerges from the client’s life and ideas, they are all unique. But definitely, a cool tattoo is one that emerges from a healthy and free mind, one that allows creativity to take control and guide the artwork.
