Bio

Originally from Peru, Knem is a resident at our Epsom studio. He began his tattooing journey six years ago, after realising his passion at a young age. While his parents were not happy with it, Knem pursued and learnt everything there was to know about the industry and various styles. Fast forward to the present day and Knem has a unique conceptual style he specialises in, combining multiple tattoo styles including fine line, realism, and black work.

Questions & answers

Where are you from? I'm from Lima, Peru, I grew up in San Juan de Lurigancho, a district of Lima.
How long have you been tattooing? I have been tattooing for approximately 6 years. 6 years of full adventures and experiences.
What inspired you to become a tattoo artist? When I was a child, I always liked to draw, I remember that at school, I scribbled various drawings on my friends' skin which I got in trouble for! From this, I discovered what I really liked, so I started doing a lot of research on the world of tattoos, watching series, competitions, and about the styles that existed at that time. And so this adventure began, my parents were not happy but now I know they are.
What is your background (university etc)? I finished my studies at school, and when I finished, as my parents were not happy with what I wanted to do, they gave me the option of studying at the university, between architecture and gastronomy. Well, I chose gastronomy, because I like to cook, but it wasn't exactly my thing, because working in a kitchen means working under pressure. And I tried, in fact I had good grades but it wasn't my thing, however, it helped me learn about cooking.
What style do you specialise in? The style I specialise in is conceptual, which includes a lot of fine line, blackwork, realism or surrealism, as a combination of these styles.I used to do traditional and neo traditional.
What do you like to do in your spare time? In my free time, I like to draw, while listening to a podcast, I like reading and going for walks with my two pets.
What’s your favourite kind of tattoo to do? My favourite type of tattoo to do is the one that has a lot of detail, I like to detail everything, it is very relaxing for me.
What’s the coolest tattoo you’ve done? The coolest tattoo I've ever done is the last one. It was a Pisces project, with numbers, two fish, a constellation, and symbols. In my opinion, it is always the last tattoo, because you do it better than the previous one and above all also because it had a lot of meaning for the client. And that makes it great too.
